ASW team member, Maryanne Muriuki, organised an event to mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The event took place at Mt. Kinangop Girls Secondary School in Njabini, Nyandarua County of Kenya. This marked the first time such an event has been held in the Nyandarua region.
Ms. Muriuki, who is the first woman from her village to meet an astronaut, themed the event “Promoting Science amongst Women and Girls for a Better World”. The event was fully sponsored by the Rotary Club of Doncaster. Maryanne was inspired to host the event as she credits science and technology for building her interest at an early age and subsequent work in the space profession.
The event brought together various speakers working in agriculture, forensic science, food science, space engineering and computer science, who addressed over 700 girls and several teachers from the school.
